Step 2: Preparation
First we mark out the location of the patio, walkway, or
driveway. Client should call the utilities, phone company, and
cable TV for locates before the start of the project. |
Step 3: Excavation
The minimum required depth depending on your application will
be excavated. For walkways, a min. of 3" wider than the
area. For driveways a min. of 6" wider than the area we are
paving will be excavated. |
|
 |
 |
|
Step 4: Base
The area filled with gravel, the base graded as closely
as possible to the final contour of the finished job. All
installations sloped away from the house or building for
drainage purposes. (Minimum 8' slope over every 10 feet) The
gravel should be 3" below finished height.
|
Step 5: Screeding
Pavers are laid on a 1" bed of coarse sand, placed directly on
the compacted base. A 1" diameter pipe is used as a screeding
guide on top of the gravel. We set up the guides so that your
pavers are ¾" above the finished level to allow for
compacting. |

 |
|
Step 6: Laying the Pavers The
pavers are placed directly on the screeded bed of sand laying
along the longest straight side. The Lines are kept straight
using string lines. This minimizes the cutting required |
The lines of the pavers are square, 90° to each other, to fit
properly when installing circles, fans, or a soldier course (a
border of pavers around the perimeter of the area) we will
place these first before installing the rest of the pattern. |

 |
|
Step 7: Cutting
The pavers that don't fit are cut along edges or around
objects with either a guillotine cutter or masonry saw. |
Step 8: Edging
They prevent the pavers from moving and shifting over time
proper Unilock® concrete products are used as
curbing.
|
|
 |
 |
|
Step 9: Compacting
After the installation is complete, including edge restraints,
the pavers must be swept clean and then compacted with a plate
compactor
.
|
Step 10: Finishing
Specially
graded Unilock® Jointing Sand is swept into
the joints between the pavers. This locks the pavers together
creating a very durable surface. For additional protection
from the penetration of weeds and insects, use
Unilock® Polymeric Sand
